about

'Preserving the addictive melodies of his earlier work and his gripping vocals, comparable to musical legends like Damien Rice and Bon Iver, Yellowlees has taken a bold-faced step forward in his work' – Chalkpit Records

'Keepsake' was written right as the UK was going into lockdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The world was a very scary place, and things were changing very quickly, and I felt a real sense of 'this is the last time things will be normal for a while'. As a result, the first lyric supposes what might happen if two lovers only had one more night together...a lot of people, myself included, suddenly found themselves far away from their loved ones, stretched apart in the blink of an eye, and the song is about holding onto those loved ones in the most difficult and darkest of times. It's got more subtle, electronic-leaning, layered production than I'd explored previously, and I think it all blends together really well. It's a very evocative track and it means a hell of a lot to me - I hope you find meaning in it, too.
P.S the artwork is one of my favourite things I've ever seen! It's gorgeous!

lyrics

If we only have tonight
Then let's be sure to paint the town
I was worried that you might
Have grown sick of me by now

Your silhouette approaching me is all I need to get me through the season
So let's dance on the lakes while they're freezing

Let me tell you something
This feeling ain't going away
I've been dreaming my way through the days
At night I'm hardly sleeping for the thought of you
I was bleeding, pulse was slowing
You stitched me up and you made me whole again
Can you take me home again

Let me make you feel alright
I'll help you lay your burden down
And when it feels like you might lose your way to the morning light
I will bring you back around

The sound of your voice leaves me no choice, I will do anything you ask of me
So let's tune out the noise and wander through the streets so peacefully

Let me tell you something
This feeling ain't going away
I've been dreaming my way through the days
At night I'm hardly sleeping for the thought of you
I was bleeding, pulse was slowing
You stitched me up and you made me whole again
Can you take me home again

Let me ease the pain you're facing
You're the healing, you've been replacing
All my shaky, shattered bones
I will help you to escape it
Here's my heart; sure, you can take it
Call it a keepsake

For goodness' sake
Can't you see how wonderful you are?
Can't you see how wonderful you are?
